Event: Greater Edmonton Home Builders SAM Awards Banquet
Location: Shaw Conference Centre, Edmonton
Event Profile
Something out of the ordinary. That was the mandate from the Greater Edmonton Home Builders Association for their 2002 awards banquet for an audience of 1000 members and guests.
The key objectives were the creative showcasing of award-nominated works, strong visual recognition of event sponsors and, above all, a "wow" effect for the big moment: presentation of the Grand Award. Live video coverage of the Awards segment, to be attended by a performance by Japanese drummers, was also required. A centred in-the-round stage added a layer of complexity to the staging challenge.
Mediaco Solutions
- A screen cube rigged directly above the stage. This required the design and installation of a custom truss configuration, which was the key to a successful staging concept.
- The cube contained four 10 x 14 foot screens, and accommodated special lighting fixtures with moving heads that helped create high visibility and impact.
- Three mobile handheld cameras captured the stage events from all angles.
- A custom "centre out" audio configuration ensured full, balanced and comfortable sound everywhere in the room.
- Custom computer graphics and still images, artfully mixed with live video images, afforded excellent display of nominee works and sponsor presence.
- The beginning of each award category, and every recipient, were heralded by an audio "stinger" custom-produced by Mediaco.
- Technical staging services of the finale - the Grand Award presentation - was an exceptional thrill, featuring whizzing line rockets, concussions, confettti air bursts and blazes of colour shot from streamer cannons. Wow? You bet.

In our industry, good service is the common currency. At Mediaco The Presentation Company, we go far beyond that. We are obsessed with impressing you. Our house blend of ability, creativity and energy is, we firmly believe, unmatched in Canada. "The Mediaco Way" is what our staff call it. Our clients call it "great attitude."
Whatever its name, it has earned us chances to serve many of the country's most exacting clients from the ranks of government, major corporations, chartered banks, associations, and leading event planners. It has resulted in an extraordinary resume: APEC summit meetings, Royal Visits, Commonwealth Games, and billion-dollar industry announcements.
Of course, major events like these don't happen every day. But from these opportunities we have developed a level of service (but no attitude) that shows up in all our projects, small or large.
How can we serve you?
